What Is Clonezilla?

Clonezilla is a free disk imaging and cloning software. It saves and restores only used blocks in hard disk partitions and supports multiple file systems including ext4, NTFS, HFS+, and XFS. Clonezilla Live runs from a CD, DVD, or USB and performs disk imaging for a single machine. Clonezilla Lite Server and SE enable mass deployment to clone 40+ computers simultaneously. Clonezilla uses open-source tools like Partclone and Partimage to image or clone partitions. It can encrypt images and clone disks in addition to partitions.

Total robustness in disk cloning

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Powerful and straightforward solution for professional disk cloning. Working with servers and workstation, this piece of software becomes a must in terms of reliability. Clonezilla works at low level on disk blocks to guarantee a 1:1 clone, preserving boot sectors and file structures on any disk.

Pros:

- Solid kernel and boot process - Any file system supported - Fast and reliable read-write operation - Comprehensive options and setup - Low resource consuming. Good for older hardware.

Cons:

- Not designed for non experienced users, requires experience and understanding of file systems and boot processes - Old fashion GUI can be surely improved, even keeping the terminal-look for maximum compatibility

A Great Open-Source Drive Tool

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: While lacking in some functions compared to paid competition and being less pretty, if Clonezilla does what you need it to it's hard to argue with its usability and wonderful price of absolutely free.

Pros:

Clonezilla is a powerful drive tool that allows for backing up, cloning, and partitioning of drives. It boots off of a flash drive, making it independent from the OS of whatever other drives are on the computer. While not especially intuitive, Clonezilla provides powerful tools that have given me little problem, with some safeguards to prevent you from causing harm to your computers. One of my favorite instances of using Clonezilla was recovering a corrupted drive that would not even be detected by other free drive tools.

Cons:

The interface is resembles some of the old DOS interfaces from the 90s, a far cry from more modern interfaces with even mouse support. Clonezilla is not intuitive to use, especially to those who aren't computer savvy. While Clonezilla supports any filesystem and file interface, it displays them using Linux's fileystem. Clonezilla also lacks some features compared to some paid options, such as backup scheduling, and granular backup control.

Classic cloning software, tricky to use

3.0 5 years ago

Pros:

A reliable cloning/backup solution and does well to keep the size of cloned disks down. We use it to image Test PCs for easy wiping back to a clean state.

Cons:

The UI is ugly and slow to navigate, making the software more laborious to use than it really should. It may be confusing for users not familiar with Linux, as it refers to disks as 'sda, sdb'.

Pros:

Very easy straight forward partition cloning. Save an exact copy of your desktop for a backup. Even keeps your settings.

Incredibly useful tool to have at your disposal

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: We recently purchased new machines to replace a handful of old ones, and they all needed an identical configuration. Clonezilla made it really easy to make an image and deploy it to all the new machines. I saved a lot of time that would have been spent tediously installing software and running configurations on all of them.

Pros:

The software made it quick and easy to get going when I needed it, really helped me speed up the process in migrating to new computers.

Cons:

As far as my use case scenario went, I didn't run into any problems so I have no cons to report.

Clonezilla for imaging

4.0 6 years ago

Comments: I have enjoyed working with this software, but I would probably try something else in the future.

Pros:

I have used Clonezilla for making images of hard drives and producing ISOs. It does a pretty good job. There are many formatting options to choose from and best of all it is free. There are some “paid” versions as well. It works really well in what it is designed for, which is system deployment.

Cons:

It seems to be a little hard to understand at time due to the many options and GUI.

5.0 7 years ago

Comments: Great software for cloning hard drives over multiple systems and formats

Pros:

Clonezilla supports multiple file systems which is great as this means it works across multiple platforms. It is extremely efficient when it comes to cloning image files to different formats and over multiple hard drives. It is also affordable and easily when compared to its competitors.

Cons:

Clonezilla does not offer as many features as its competitors and is often a bit slower in terms of the cloning process.

Drive cloning afordable and easy

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: If you have a large ammount of drives to clone or backup somewhere, this is the right tool.

Pros:

This product has large support for various file systems, and supports cloning many types of drives. Easy to use and intuitive, does cloning in a flash.

Cons:

Each version adds more options and uses. The hard part would be the use of command line, but an intuitive simple graphic option, makes thing easier.

My go-to for hard drive imaging

5.0 6 years ago

Comments: Free and effective - what more could you want?

Pros:

It's free and extremely versatile - I use this any time I'm installing a new hard drive and want to image the existing drive onto the new hardware. Works every time, and you can even ignore bad sectors if the original drive is failing and you'd like to recover data.

Cons:

It can be a little daunting at first, but just be patient!

So good it should be way more expensive

5.0 4 years ago

Comments: This has become my go-to imaging software for all new system builds or backups.

Pros:

For being open source software this thing is amazing. Super fast & easy to clone disks & partitions, better than many paid alternatives.

Cons:

Like most cloning software, it is sometimes difficult to clone larger source onto a smaller destination (even if there is room). You can do it with Clonezilla, but takes jumping through a few hoops.

Computer clones

5.0 5 years ago

Comments: Clonezilla has been saving us time and work. The ease of migrating content from one hard drive to another with guaranteed operation, makes us use clonezilla whenever necessary.

Pros:

The best tool to clone Windows or Linux computer. In recent times customers are migrating from Sata HD to SSD HDD, Clonezilla makes life easier because it is only necessary to create a clone of the old HD to the new, without having to reinstall everything again. This saves us work and time.

Cons:

There is nothing negative so far to be described.
